SkyWork Airport Shuttle - Next stop: Berne Airport

Starting on 9 July 2012, the “SkyWork Airport Shuttle” will be linking Berne city centre with Berne Airport several times a day. The four service providers, Aaretal Reisen, SkyWork Travel, Hotel Schweizerhof Berne and Hotel Allegro Berne are offering this service exclusively for their guests, thereby satisfying a frequently mentioned customer need.

“Our guests desire not only well-appointed hotel rooms, but also a pleasant and above-all convenient arrival and departure”, explains Michael Thomann, Director of the Hotel Schweizerhof Berne. “It was this frequently expressed customer wish that ultimately provided the impetus to establish a direct link between Berne city centre and Berne Airport”, adds Patrik Scherrer, Director of the Hotel Allegro Berne. The shuttle service is not intended to act as a competitor to public transport however. “We want to offer a useful complement to the existing public transport service”, stresses Thomas Feer, coach operator. This explains the fact that only SkyWork Airlines travellers and customers of the four partners will be able to enjoy use of the direct airport shuttle for the time being. An expansion of the service to other hotels or partners is not ruled out however, subject to sufficient demand. “We are orienting ourselves to the wishes and needs of our customers”, confirms Gabriela Jones, Managing Director of Aaretal Reisen.

The pilot project by the four partners starts on 9 July 2012. Several times a day, the Airport Shuttle will pick up passengers in front of the Hotel Schweizerhof Berne, continue to the Hotel Allegro Berne for a brief stop and then convey them directly to Berne Airport in comfort. The “SkyWork Airport Shuttle” is oriented to the SkyWork Airlines schedule, enabling a relaxed journey direct from Berne city centre to Berne Airport with no long waiting times or complicated transfers. For the time being, Shuttle travel can only be booked via the SkyWork Airlines Call Center and the hotel receptions in the Hotel Schweizerhof Berne and Hotel Allegro Berne, as well as the tour operators SkyWork Travel and Aaretal Reisen or direct at the ticket desk in the airport. An electronic reservation system is in progress and is anticipated to be ready for use from August/September. Passengers pay CHF 10.00 (one way) or CHF 15.00 (return) for the approximately 30-minute trip for which they are driven in comfortable minibuses stopping directly in front of the airport. The private initiative by the four partners shows how important it is to have a good connection to air traffic for the development of the capital city region and that the airport can be a central driver for economic growth and jobs for the entire region.
